May 9, 2025 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE PUBLIC
Brandon, MB – A public hearing regarding a further amendment to the Development Charges (DC) By-Law is scheduled for Monday, June 9 at 7 p.m. in Council Chambers. Members of the public are invited to attend and present their views on the proposed amendment.
The amendment seeks to phase in increased water and wastewater rates over a three-year period for high-density developments. The phasing schedule exclusively applies to the rate increase between the current and proposed rates and will be implemented as follows: 25% in Year 1, 50% in Year 2, and 100% in Year 3.
Following the public hearing, the City will submit its application to the Public Utilities Board of Manitoba, which currently oversees the approval of water and wastewater DC rates.
DCs have been in place since 2019 and provide a key method to help fund essential off-site infrastructure. Due to the substantial growth experienced in Brandon in recent years, there is an increasing need for additional municipal infrastructure. The City is committed to maintaining a balance between growth, costs, and development to ensure that Brandon remains one of the most livable cities in Canada and can continue to grow over the next 20 years.
